This album never gets old

2012 has been a great year for album releases... maybe the best year in a long time in my opinion. One band that has contributed to this amazing year is the band Teramaze. Hailing from Melbourne, Austrailia, Teramaze has unleashed their first album in eleven years (not counting their Anthology album in 2008) AnhedoniA. This album fuzes progressive and thrash metal into eleven amazing in your face tracks.

Starting off the onslaught is the title track, AnhedoniA. This song is basically the setting for, pretty much, the whole album. Your head gets this sudden urge to start banging, then it slowly makes its way down to your feet... then the next thing you know, you are in a full fledged self-induced mosh (Be sure there is at least a fifteen foot clearance when listening to this album!). This song just rips! Brett Rerekura's vocals are truly amazing and guitarist Dean Wells is a pure shredder in his own right and totally tears it up. The music is tight and furious, yet not overdone. The whole band is very talented and can totally overpower any song if they wanted to but the mix is just right. This song highlights their progressive thrashiveness (is that a word? it is now!).

Without Red Hands is actually a song that they recorded for the Anthology Album back in '08 which was called "Smashed Face". This is another head banging, fist pumping song. I mean, get ready to mosh it up when you play this song. It is one of my favorites. This is one of their thrashier songs and... well, just turn it up really loud.

Through The Madness is the next track and they are not letting up on the cranial trepidation.

Machine is yet another mosher with amazing vocals, guitars... ok, the whole thing is amazing!

Acts Of Reparation is a really cool song. Did I mention that this whole album just flat out rocks?

Fear Of The Unknown is another amazing tune; it starts of mid-tempoish and then releases the fury. Dean throws in a stellar shreddish delight and the vocals are just right.

Black Circles is my favorite track and well, just request it and hear for yourself. This song has been in our most requested for quite sometime (As of this review) and rightfully so. This is another song that was first featured on their Anthology album and then redone for this release. What a gem it is!

Proverb Le Jame does not let up in the least. Another great song that keeps the mosh going (You may want to pause the album after this song and take in some electolytes and some carbohydrates).

Where The Dead Grows is seven and a half minutes of being a life size bobble head doll of yourself exhibition mixed with sudden bursts of paroxysm. Yeah, you heard me... paroxysm.

Egostatic is another kick hiney song that begs for a full entrouge of uncontrolled oscillation. This is another favorite of mine and I just love the vocals and guitar solo. I am back and forth between this song and Black Circles. You will have to decide for yourself.

Ever Enhancing II is an acoustic remake from their Doxology album. I liked the original so this is a nice treat.

Overall, may be my favorite album of the year. The vocals, guitar, the whole thing in fact, is trully stellar! This is the perfect blend of progressive and thrash metal that has been pulled off this amazingly by only a few other bands. If you like the band Halcyon Way, then you will love this album. It has been in my iPod since it came out and I have not even pondered the thought of taking it off. I highly recommend this album and be warned... Intense head banging will occur so Tylenol is recommended before listening.
