It never fails to impress me how the veteran rockers can craft such satisfying tunes. They understand hooks, progressions, how to build and release tension (blues model) - when to ramp it up, when to ease it down. At the risk of being the 'get off my lawn' guy, I would recommend young musicians study the songwriting of the 80's rockers who are still generating solid tunes. From Saint to Stryper to Whitecross and many others. Their music has longevity for a reason. We see it in both the secular and Christian markets.
