Hello world! Came by to say thank you Tom that this radio station and community exists. Rockin' for the Rock indeed! ;D

I've been a Christian since my childhood and I didn't know Christian rock and metal was a thing until a teacher introduced it to me in high school with Relient K - Be My Escape (it's really good :D). However, until I started listening to Dead to Self, I didn't make much of an effort to discover more Christian metal bands so all I knew before joining were Impending Doom, For Today, Fit for a King and Becoming the Archetype. The exposure to all the different songs and bands on this station is phenomenal! I absolutely adore metal, industrial (Imperative Reaction) and Eurobeat music, and I'm so glad that there are Christian artists filling the metal niche!

My absolute favourite that I've heard on Dead to Self so far is Audio Adrenaline - My God. I love how wacky and crazy it is ;D however, when I told my friends at Bible study about it and discussed Christian metal and rock music, they said they didn't really like the genre and thought worship and metal didn't work together because of how aggressive-sounding the genre is :( these are relatively young people by the way, and one was a musician at that... it's sad that there aren't many people who appreciate this genre. Hopefully one day I'll find a fellow Christian in real life who appreciates metal :) because almost everyone here is into the boring pop stuff. It certainly has its place but it's just not my jam.
Even my family don't like metal, saying it gives them panic attacks T_T

I really wish I'd discovered this radio station earlier! I only came to know of its existence because of the Clementine app and Icecast. Well, late is better than never.

Awesome to meet you all :D and keep up the excellent work! Love from Australia hehe <3

By the way, are there any solid bands that are like old-school Nightwish and Amberian Dawn (metal with classical singing)? I haven't heard anything on Dead to Self that fills that niche yet ^^

Awesome lum2nuss... so glad you found us and welcome!!!! Yeah, this has always been an issue with many Christians. I have listened to Christian rock/metal since the early 80's and am so glad that it exists. I realize that not every believer is going to like or even accept it. How I look at it is, it is not going to save me nor is it going to condemn me. I enjoy the genre, and having Christian lyrics makes it that more awesome!
As far as bands like Nightwish, check out Leah and Theocracy. I know that there are more... I will see what I can find.
Thank you again for joining our forum. God bless.

Yes, totally with you on that :D and listening to Christian metal will always be much better than listening to secular stuff with questionable lyrics.

Since I started listening to D2S, my relationship with God has definitely improved and there's so many songs with great links back to the Bible, which really reinforces the sections where they're from and I absolutely love it. Music seriously has such a powerful effect and not enjoying the worship music you listen to means you're really missing out! It's like... yes I can resonate with the lyrics of those more mainstream songs, but it doesn't really move my spirit much (if that makes sense :'D emotion and knowledge are essential to worship!)

Wow they're both so good!! I'll definitely look into more of their songs :'D Theocracy's Ghost Ship is especially my jam - love the guitar on there!
I was originally asking more along the lines of operatic-style singing though, but if that's really really rare or even nonexistent then it's all good :D

Glad to have you lum1nuss! And I absolutely echo your sentiments to Tom and this station!

Softer, poppy P&W music has a place in a lot of Christian's hearts and it works for them and me sometimes. However, I also feel it's important to be aggressive in your praise to Him as well at times. It's a good reminder for me that it takes a driving effort to seek Him, rather than a passive one.

If you're interested, check out War of Ages. They're a metal up there with Demon Hunter but a bit more heavy. Absolutely love WoA! Deny the Fallen is a really great one too but more of a heavier rock IMO. If Theocracy resonates with you, you can check out Project Aegis ("The Rest is Mystery" - Amazing!) as well - they're more of a collab. hard rock group.

There are a lot of gems to be found here on D2S and you can request em too!

Agreed! ;D
To be fair, a lot of people probably find the pop-style worship music passionate enough for them because they find the more intense genres too aggressive and don't think it works (like my rl friends haha :') ). Maybe to them, pop is like what the harder metals are to us, and classic hymns to them are like what pop is to us ;D but yes, all styles and genres have their place in P&W! My singing in real life is quite subpar so the slow songs are a lot more welcome there ;D

Woah WoA is so good!! My favourite so far is Collapse - the blend of clean vocals and growling is my jam 100% :) but I haven't listened to a lot from them so I'll definitely have to find some time for that B)
Deny the Fallen are also epic!! Absolutely love their sound ^^
I've only listened to Eye of the Hurricane and If It Costs me my Life by Deny the Fallen, so I'll have to take a bit more time to explore (+_+)

And woah, The Rest is Mystery - such a fantastic recommendation! It's all so well-blended together, literally music to my ears :D

There really are! I will have to build my Christian rock and metal library a bit more first though before I start doling out recommendations I think ;D
