Like a fire burning out of control, Devin Williams delivers a haymaker jab to the Christian and rock community with his release Destruction of Kings. These guitar shredding and percussion pounding power anthems highlight Devin's vocal yen destined for chart success. Once again, this Music City rocker has capped a project that empowers listeners to yearn for the truth and make their own discoveries of faith, hope and survival.
"Throughout this whole process from songwriting, to recording in the studio, to performing it live and finally offering this album to my fans, I battled the topics of pride, salvation and our ever changing relationships with each other and God," says Devin. "This project isn't just a Christian album or a rock album; it's a project for anyone who has ever felt the burn and fiery desire of love, the price of your own ego and the lack or presence of a spiritual driven life. This project can connect with everyone."
Throughout Destruction of Kings, one will find fingerprint influences from Red, Papa Roach, Breaking Benjamin, Gavin Degraw and Jimmy Eat World. It's his southpaw punches of musical breaks followed by a storm of sound that prove to be a signature design for this project. The first release "I Will Overcome" tackles the relentless onslaught of one's struggles and how each of us possesses the strength to conquer and crush those hurdles. Romans 8:37-39. "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
That theme of surmounting one's darkness and unveiling a truly fulfilled life is anchored in every track on this album. This Golden state native fills his world beyond the music career with his beautiful wife Amanda and three young boys. "I thank God everyday for my family. If I'm not on the road I'm at home hanging out with my little bros either wrestling or having light saber battles in the living room. Being a husband and a father has taught me so much more about life." His own parents are the beacons that sparked his interest in performing, songwriting and singing. His mother was drummer, dancer and vocalist in her own right. His father was the multi-instrumentalist that led his son's journey though a plethora of sounds from piano, trumpet, French horn, bass, drums and finally guitar.
"I remember distinctly that our TV broke in my childhood and my parent's either chose to not replace it or simply didn't have the money, who really knows," recalls Devin. "It was during this time that I started entertaining myself by trying different instruments and tones."
Beginning with his work in the group Mouthpiece, to his first solo praise and worship grounded Pour It Out and even on the prelude to this album the pounding Overload EP, Devin has consistently delivered two important messages. 1. Everyone has flaws, pride, ego, and uncertainties that we carry with us throughout this life. 2. We all hold within us a flame of strength and the ability to construct a humanity that cares and supports one another. Ring the bell and go round to round through this album. It's guaranteed to knock out your walls and be the nails and wood to find your true destiny.
