When We Were Kings
Artist: Stryper
Label: Frontiers Records
Released: 2024
Type: Full-Length
Rating: 5/5 Skulls (1)

"When We Were Kings" has it all - everything expected from Stryper and then some. From songs like "End of Days" (which showcases their heavy side) to the title track (which has a groove like no other) to the deep and dark ballad "Betrayed By Love" to the classic meets modern vibe of "Loves Symphony" to the classic pop sense of "Grateful" - the album offers a variety of flavors yet a unique familiarity. Sonically speaking the band's singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer, Michael Sweet, along with Danny Bernini, employed some very unique recording techniques to make the guitars sound huge. And huge they are! During the writing process, it was very important to incorporate choruses that are memorable, melodic, and a bit of a throwback to the past while keeping a few modern-day twists and turns along the way.
Everything came together perfectly, and everyone delivered on a whole new level. There truly is something very special about this one.

I am so glad that Stryper are still rocking us. They have just too much talent not to! Their last few albums reveal that they are getting better with age and this album is no exception. It rocks and I love getting rocked. This album takes me back to their days of old, when they were kings... Yeah, I can hear their classic sound mixed in with their modern and it blends nicely. I cannot imagine a rockin' world without Stryper. Lovin' this album and looking forward to more from the Christian metal kings.
