Maybe we'll decide to get buried here...
...the last great apostles of rugged individualism.
These simple statements captured from the 1929 film, "The Petrified Forest" capture the spirit and passion of Datum Point's debut record, "Wake the Dead"
The Cincinnati, Ohio five-piece band named the pit-inciting album after popular Romero-esque zombie flicks. "The purpose behind naming it (the record) Wake the Dead is precisely that... to awaken those who are spiritually dead into a new life that we believe everyone should be able to experience", explains frontman and lead vocalist Dusty Murphy A.K.A. Reverend Dred.
This record has been a long time coming for these outspoken crusaders of unapologetic Christian Metal. Their rethought and rehashed take on several popular metal styles, such as thrash, groove, hardcore and progressive metal have won over countless metal enthusiasts, regardless of religious persuasion.
Datum Point have grown into a formidable presence in the Midwest/Southeast, sharing the stage with such national acts as Haste The Day, For Today, Sleeping Giant, Corpus Christi, The White Collar Sideshow, Day of Fire, As Hell Retreats and many more. In 2010, the band was hand-picked from numerous metal acts to play on The Slave to the Metal Tour, featuring the "Hostess with the Most-ess", Mistress Juliya. Recently, Datum Point clenched the number 1 spot at the Ashland, Kentucky Rock the River Battle of the Bands, featuring Brian "Head" Welch.
Hammer in hand, the mayhem-inducing members of Datum Point left their raw, unyielding mark on the front steps of popular culture. Though the members claim Cincinnati as their band's hometown, only one member hails from the Ohio side of the Ohio River... and it shows. Wake the Dead sounds like it came straight out of a Kentucky Revival, complete with growling prophets, screaming preachers, wailing guitars, groove inducing bass, and pummeling drums. At one point, during "Master Plan", the listener is even confronted by a money-soliciting televangelist begging for donations through a megaphone.
"The Lord said give and it shall be given unto you. We accept all major credit cards, checks and money orders...".
"We've got so many musical influences in our veins that the music just kind of melds into this awesome, brutal force of our faith and passion. I'd say that the most common thread of our tastes would have to be bands that really cemented metal in history as a viable thing. We all dig southern metal a lot. Like over the top solos, heavy chugging guitar lines and stuff like that. You know, the super-epic, blow your mind metal that just makes every 15 year old kid bang their head!", says Dred.
Recorded in Winston-Salem,NC with seasoned Sound Engineer Jamie King (Whitechapel, Between the Buried and Me, For Today), Wake the Dead is the first chance the Datpack (DP's fanbase) has had to hear their favorite band at this level of professional sound.
The guys in Datum Point sent a face melting message to all who will take notice...
