In 2001, the band added a new guitarist, named Rafek Oganyan on Rhythm Guitars. With Oganyan's addition, the band recorded a Superficial Intelligence and released it in 2004. By this point, the band was independent; Geneva Records disappeared, with Diet of Worms being the only documented release.
Most of the songs first appeared on Gary Lenaire's "The Lost Years" album. According to Lenaire, "These songs were written between 1999 and 2000. Because they mean a great deal to me I could not let them go unreleased. The music truly articulates an "in between" stage for me both as a musician and as a person."
