Reviews For "Black Steel Box"

by metalbasscop on 10/21/2012

This disc is a rare treasure! Elements of Heavy Groove Metal, Doom Metal, Speed Metal and even a hint of Industrial Metal all surface here. While not inherently sounding “like” any other band, Modus Operandi could be considered in the vein of, and cut from the same metal cloth as those collective styles, yet they have created a platter of unique and fresh music from those influences – and it’s downright awesome! The opening distorted bass wah riffing to “Choke” gets things moving with an aggressive low-end attitude. This album is laced with tasty chest pounding drumming, thundering bass lines and crunchy guitar shredding throughout. James Rasmussen on vocals is one righteously angry dude, and he has written some bold “stake in the ground” lyrics for Christ. The world needs more heavy bands like this with a no holds barred message, and I give them a hearty salute for taking such a stand and putting to tape some intensely crushing tunes! There is some seriously catching riffing going on here that really gets the blood pumping and head banging. Simply put, these guys are impressive musicians and this is an excellent independent Metal release full of quality material and a great earth quaking recorded mix. The cool CD cover and liner notes on the hard copy pressing make it a great collector’s item, if you can find it. MO’s “Black Steel Box” is worthy of a solid 5 skull rating and it holds a prime spot in my music collection. I’m very pleased I discovered these guys.(Somebody re-issue this killer thing!)
