Reviews For "Heart Attack"

Do Not Resuscitate...
by tombie on 4/2/2019

"Heart Attack" is the anticipated E.P. by Relent. It features seven songs, two which were released back in 2016 on their two song release "Embers". The band released two songs in 2018, Changed and Send A Miracle. I have been excited for this since I first heard that they were working on it, I love these guys!
So after giving it a good week of listens, I am ready to give you my opinion on it.
First, my song by song breakdown...
The album starts off with "Six Feet Under Me". The song starts off with a cool heavy guitar riff before hitting you with a full frontal assault on your earholes. The music is tight and heavy. I love the guitar tone and everything is mixed just right. Frontman, Miggy, has a cool voice with just the right amount of rasp in just the right places. The song is about dying to self, love that, and the struggles of doing so.

"I've Buried Myself Once Again
The Dirt On My Fingers Tell Stories That Linger
Help Me Remember The End

I'm So Sick Of Giving In
Take Me Where I Want To Be
I Know That I'll Be Free
When I'm Buried Six Feet Under Me

I've Died To Myself Once Again
The Sword Cuts Me Deeper
I'm Now A Believer
My End Is Where You Can Begin

What's Wrong With Me?
Every Time I Get A Little Faith I End Up On My Face"

I think any Christian could relate to the message of this song. I love that there is no guessing as to what they are saying, up front, bold and to the point.

Next is "Changed". They released this song last year and I have been jamming to it since. Linkin Park comes to mind when I first heard it although a bit heavier. It is more on the rapcore side but nicely done. I love the message, the title says it all...

"I'm Changed From The Inside
Left My Heart And Walked Away
I'm Changed And It Feels Right
Hold Me Close Don't Let Me Go, I'm Yours"

Next is "Rise". The song was originally released back in 2016 on their two song EP "Embers". It is what originally won me over to these guys. Heavy, tight and in your face! I love the boldness these guys display in their songs and in their lives. One of my favorite songs still...

"Without You" starts off slow and then the pre-chorus kicks in heavy and furious and then it backs off a little for the chorus, then back into the slow. I love this song. It has a nice heavy, driving guitar tone and Miggy sings with passion and conviction.

"Why Can I Not Feel Anything?
Try, Take It All Take Everything
Fight, Killing Me Inside
Are You Listening?"

Next track is "Send A Miracle". It's a nice hard rockin' tune about suffering and crying out to God when you're ready to give up but yet you hold on and trust Him. LOVE the boldness. This is another one of my favorite songs.

"I Wanna Give Up, Tap Out
Straight Up Throw In The Towel
But I've Been Given The Call To Shake The Gates Of Hell
Life Spinning In A Whirl About To Faint
Sitting On The Edge Of My Thoughts About To Break"

"Addicted" is the next tune and has a nice heavy, driving, mid tempo beat that hits you right in the face. Another lyrically bold and in your FAITH song with no doubt about the message. It reminds me a little of Disciple and P.O.D. in the best way.

"I Can't Get Enough, I'm Addicted To Your Love
Gave You My Everything, You Became Everything
Now I'm Addicted To You"

The last song is "Surrendered", which also was released back in 2016. Another song that I love and am still not tired of. It's heavy and has a nice hard driving beat that puts me in full cranial paroxysm.

Overall this E.P. is excellent! No sleepers or fillers. Each song is heavy and carries its own weight.
Lyrically, the album is bold, uncompromising, and in you FAITH!
Musically, it is heavy, tight and each song is well written. Vocals are tight and have just the right amount of rasp. I love Miggy's tone and NO AUTOTUNE!!! He can sing! Guitarists Josh Paccione and Chris Castillo compliment one another and work together like a finely tuned machine. I love the guitar tone... Rhythm section, Bruce Gonzales (bass) and Gaston Flores (drums) round out the band with tight, coordinated precision.
Production is excellent.
If you are into bands like Disciple, P.O.D., Linkin Park, Spoken, and Thousand Foot Krutch... You will LOVE this album.
