Dark Sky
Country: Germany
Genre: Hard Rock/Heavy Metal
Dark Sky is a German heavy metal band from Rottweil, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, founded in 1982 by Mike Stelzig, Frank Breuninger, Richy Richard, Champs Niebling and Mike Tomlinson. A finished album was not published 1984 due to the bankruptcy of the record company (Bregenzer Records). In the year 1988, Dark Sky won the finals at the nationwide contest "the Springboard" in Wenden (Sauerland) with the title eternity. At the end of 1989, several members left the band. After a variety of musicians, the band returned to the end of the 1990's and signed a contract with the Malaysian record label Life Records. The album "Believe It" was produced and released in 1998 with success in Southeast Asia. In the year 2000, "Believe It" was also published in Europe via the German label Goodlife Records.
Shortly before the recording of the second album "Edge Of Time", Steffen Doll joined the band as a new guitarist. Also at Goodlife Records, "Edge Of Time" was released in Europe and Japan in 2002. In August 2004, Dark Sky signed a new record contract with the German label AORHeaven, where the third album "Living And Dying" was released in Europe and Japan in 2005. The studio recordings for the album were completed under the direction of Markus Teske (red Circuit) in the Bazement studio. After many concerts, among others with the Scorpions and a German tour with Thunder, the fourth album "Empty Faces", which was once again recorded in the Bazement studio, was released in June 2008 by the label AORHeaven. Empty faces showed the harder side of the band, but did not shy away from the catchy refrains.
In the following years, further concerts took place at festivals in Germany and abroad as well as a European tour with Magnum. In the fall of 2011, Dark Sky began producing material for their fifth album "Initium". The recordings took place again in the Bazement studio under the direction of Markus Teske. A modern and progressive concept album was created, which attained the band's typical, melodic sound. At the end of the production, the band signed a new record contract with the German label Pure Steel Records in the summer of 2012, where Initium was released in autumn 2012.
In the autumn of 2013, bassist Winny Zurek finished his music career for health and private reasons and left dark sky. With Lutz Aicher, a long-time former band member, took over the bass during appearances.
