Scott Allen Project

Country: United States of America
Genre: Instrumental Rock

Scott Allen Project is an all instrumental progressive hard rock group led by guitarist Scott Allen. Inspired by the great Eddie Van Halen to pick up the guitar at age 11, Scott studied furiously throughout his teen years and upon graduating high school packed his bags for Hollywood to attend the world famous Musician's Institute, GIT. There he honed his chops with guidance from such instructors as Keith Wyatt, Paul Hansen, Scott Henderson, Brett Garsed, Danny Gill, Steve Trovato, Frank Gambale, and Jennifer Batten. Upon graduation and seeing what the Nu Metal scene had done to the once mighty sunset strip he decided to head back north to Sacramento. Once back in Northern California Scott decided it was time to start up his own group that would allow him to play the kind of music that was completely out of style in the late nineties. After recruiting Drummer Tom Frost and Bassist Brian Kinney it was time to get to work.
The group hit the club scene and started to hone its music, opening up for such well known acts as Gary Hoey, Eric Martin of Mr. Big, Dave Meniketti of Y&T, Planet X (featuring Tony MaCalpine, Derek Sherinian and Virgil Donati), and Frank Hannon of Tesla, among others. The shows with Frank Hannon were important as he agreed to engineer and produce the groups debut album, What Lies Beyond Words, which was released in 2006. This album received fantastic reviews around the world and Scott was chosen by the legendary Mike Varney to appear in his Guitar Player Magazine spotlight column. 98 Rock, one of the biggest rock radio stations in Northern California, played many tracks from this record and asked permission to use music from What Lies Beyond Words for their Bod Squad DVD. Shortly after Scott received equipment endorsements with Vigier Guitars, Dimarzio Pickups, Morley Pedals, SIT Strings, George L Cables, and Peavey Amps.
With some of the world's finest gear manufacturers on board, Scott then released his first Instructional DVD for Chops From Hell titled, The Art of Rock Guitar. Having already taught private lessons for years this project was a labor of love, and got him hungry for another record. In 2010 Scott Allen Project's second record, From the Blindside, was released. It again was met with strong reviews and was featured on Metal Express Radio's Daily Album Premiere and 12th Hour radio shows. Shortly after Scott was featured on Steve Vai's Guitar TV on the show Fresh Talent. He also began writing columns for Guitar Websites like, Guitar Nine, Guitarz-4-ever, Shredaholic.com, and Chops From Hell. During this time Scott participated in several compilation CD's such as Mad Guitar Records, Melodic Soloists, and Vigier Guitars Artist Compilation alongside such greats as Guns N' Rose's Bumblefoot, Deep Purple's Roger Glover, and the late Shawn Lane.
On the live front the band kept busy with opening slots with UFO, Steve Morse (Deep Purple/Dixie Dregs/Kansas), Michael Schenker (Scorpions/UFO/MSG), Gary Hoey, Eric Gales band, Montrose, Lynch Mob (featuring George Lynch of Dokken), and the Aristocrats (featuring Guthrie Govan, Marco Minneman, and Bryan Bellar). Scott also conducted many of his Shred On Arrival guitar clinics throughout Northern California.
Next Scott began a partnership with Truefire one of the worlds leaders in guitar media. This partnership led to Scott running a private online classroom called The Metal Shop where students all over the world can study with Scott at their own pace online. In 2012 Truefire introduced his workshop Rock Chops. In 2013 Scott released his second Instructional DVD course (and first for Truefire) titled 50 Rock Virtuoso Licks You Must Know. In the fall of 2013 he also introduced two new Truefire workshops titled Tapping A-Z, and Sweep Picking Essentials, giving guitarists even more study options. He also continues to teach private lessons in Northern California.
