GRYP (pronounced Grip), is an alternative metal band from Fresno, California, that formed in 1997.
In the early 2000's, GRYP was ascending through ranks of the Active Rock and specialty Rock charts all over the world and was named one of Metal Edge Magazine's "Bands to Watch Out For". GRYP did pretty well in both the Christian and Mainstream Rock and Loud formats years ago, including #16 on the Mainstream CMJ top 50 with their "Left Behind" CD. GRYP had a few #1 singles on several Mainstream and Christian FM Rock Stations across the U.S. through the years, toured the country several times over and played shows with bands like P.O.D., 311, Finger Eleven, Motograter, Drowning Pool, Adema, Living Sacrifice, Norma Jean, Thousand Foot Krutch, Disciple, and more.
They would eventually disband until former middle school principal and vocalists Curtis Shamlin, resurrected GRYP in 2015. Shamlin was in the news in October, 2014 because he was fired from his middle school Principal job for writing a Christian book, The Rock'n'Roll Principal. He later become a TV talk show host on the weekly The Rock'n'Roll Principal on www.centralvalleytalk.com. Curtis is also the manager of GRYP and runs Flesh And Blood Records.
